Inside Pt. VIII

It was beautiful a kaleidoscope of color and light, Sec wasn’t sure if she believed in the concept of a soul, but this was a fairly convincing argument in favor of such a thing. The First avatar approached the humming orb, almost hesitant to touch it, knowing the deluge of memories and feelings would probably be quite painful.

At this distance Sec was experiencing flashes of his memories in her own mind. Leaving their home together with the enclave, traveling the stars and exploring the cosmos. The first detection of the ancient digital beacon, older than any recorded signals, but clearly of Earth origin. Touching down and meeting these wayward humans, finding an agrarian people whose ancestors had arrived here as colonists centuries ago. Falling in love with a people and deciding to stay when their companions chose to leave for another system. When they decided to reveal the secret of their longevity and abilities, nanites, or nite dust as it came to be called. Letting those who wished it be genetically altered to be able to manipulate them as they did. Being raised into leaders by those around them and helping shape a new optimistic society. Slowly teaching them philosophy and science, and then seeing some of those ideas and experiments pushed too far, knowing how catastrophically wrong things could go, but unable to stop the wheels turning. And then a flash of light brighter than the sun, then darkness.

Sec gasped, these memories were mostly ones she shared but seeing them through another’s eyes was a novel and somewhat shocking experience. More than that though, finally, she remembered her real name.

He reached out and touched the orb.
